Rose Theatre (La vie en rose) – Ballet in Two Parts

‘La vie en rose’ is a dance theatre performance that bathes in the light of the evergreen chansons by Maurice Chevalier, Edith Piaf, Gilbert Bécaud, and Jaques Brel. These well-known and popular pieces are used to introduce the immortal chanteurs and chanteuses through the eyes of Jef, a tramp. They are nostalgic and ripe with bittersweet melancholy, but not without a pinch of self-deprecation.

Jef lived on the streets of Paris: passers-by knew the old accordion-player well. Life in the big city passed him by, and left him standing unnoticed in the background. Time only stands still in chansons, because chansons are eternal. Thanks to its directness, music can bring the past back to life, and the shining stars on the sky of French songs can recall long-forgotten characters and moods in La vie en rose.
