Dance Forum 2008

IN HONOUR OF THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF DANCE

Since 1983, the Day of Dance has been celebrated worldwide with dance performances on 29th April, the birthday of Jean Georges Noverre, who is considered one of the giants of classical ballet. This is the greatest celebration of the art of dance, and this is the eighth time the National Dance Theatre has organised a festival connected to this event.

As in previous years, the Dance Forum will take place at two venues this year as well, in the National Dance Theatre and in the Palace of Arts. We have done our best to make the programme colourful, so it includes performances for both adults and children, folk dance, ballet and contemporary dance.
Like at previous Dance Forums thus far, we are also expecting foreign guest stars this time, and this time the Shen Wei Dance Arts from New York troupe will put on performances called the Rite of Spring and Folding. Although the troupe was only formed in the year 2000, it has developed into one of the most popular and most widely travelled dance troupes in the world.
Naturally, domestic troupes will also appear at the festival. There will be numerous first night performances at the Dance Forum, including a joint evening by Dóra Barta and Zoltán Fodor, and the performances entitled Choreographer-Confessions by the Budapest Dance Theatre, The Golden Bough Show by the Danube Art Ensemble, and Bolero/DéjA• vu/Carmen by the Hungarian Ballet Theatre Gödöllő.
According to custom, the professional awards of the Association of Hungarian Dance Artists, the Viktor Fülöp Scholarship and the award of the Zoltán Imre Foundation will be presented on the Day of Dance on 29th April.
